Trying out some new themes. Err... don't know if I'm that good, but just would love to hear opinions. I'm only fourteen, so uh...Not too critical please!! hehe. Thankies! Sitting on the ridge of the river, she listened to the water murmur familiar stories, of ancient livings. Gripping onto the branch of the erstwhile willow tree, that hung over the river bed, she slowly hoisted herself to her feet. She smiled reluctantly at the powerful sunset of another ordinary day. Her feet were bare, and she was dressed in a white sundress painted with maroon flowers, top to bottom, and had recently been patched. Her eyes seemed to have captivated the oceans golden-blue color, and held everlasting knowledge, and curiosity. Yet, as much time as she had spent outdoors, her skin was as pale as the first snow fall. But her hair, draped passed her shoulders. It had a taunting glow of red and blonde which complimented her personality in every way. She stretched her arms to the sky, and closed her eyes, soaking in the a breath of crisp summer air. Turning towards an overgrown dirt path, she blinked a few times and trotted away. Past nigtfall she arrived back to her small country home, tattered and torn. She hadn't realized the time. Ever-so-slowly she creaked open the front door, to the old white house. She breathed in and spied around the dark, but, moonlight house. She released her fearful breath, and began up the stairs. With every step, the hackneyed oak stairs creaked loudly under the pressure. Stopping, she flinched at the noise and continued climbing up the stairs, squinting her eyes. Reaching the top she was relieved to find, the soft carpet floor under her feet. She proceeded down the hallway, and peered around the corner, finding her room, waiting for her. She smiled reluctantly. “EBONDY!” screeched a female voice directly behind her ear. She abruptly slammed her eyes, and swallowed, as she turned around to face what she had been avoiding. A candle quivered in the hand of her father as her mother beamed at her. “Missy, do you have any idea what time it is?!” continued her mother. Ebony bowed her head slowly, “No, ma.” she mumbled. “It's passed midnight!” “Did you hear me Ebony Marie McCarter?!” hissed her mother. Ebony squeezed her hands together tightly and sighed. “Yes, ma” “I understand.” Her mother ravenously glared at her daughter. “Off to bed with you! And if I catch you out later than eight, you will lose many of your privileges!” “Do as your mother says.” Added her father, groggily. Ebony inhaled deeply, and headed back to her room, discouraged. She flew herself upon her bed, not even changing into her sleepwear. “Why, must I sleep when I am not tired?” She spoke softly to herself. She shook her head. “I cannot elaborate enough to them, that I can not close my eyes at any time, and just go off to dream land willingly!” she protested her complaints. “It's hard being a fifteen year-old girl, surrounded by people who don't even understand you!” she continued, “And all these other girls, or as they like to call themselves 'ladies', don't understand either!” “Am I the only one around here that is not appealed to dresses, pearls, and lace?” She shook her head once more, and watched the ceiling, as if it were to change. She clutched onto her rag-bunny, which she received when she was born in 1931. This doll had definitely seen its years. She closed her eyes and waited patiently for morning to arrive.... Read More »
